Tammy Spear

Bio 

Tammy Spear, 1962, born in Jonesboro, Tennessee, US, is based in Greensboro, NC. She is best known for her abstract paintings using acrylic, watercolor and mixed media. Her technique incorporates vibrant colors, music, emotions, and interactions between humans in daily life and nature. This results in multi-colored compositions with elements that come together into complex pieces, many with adversarial elements. She has exhibited at the 311 Gallery in Raleigh, NC, the Clarion Hotel, the Webster Art Gallery in Missouri, Hirsch Center Art Auction, and Galeria Azur in NYC. Art publications include The Art World Post, Carolina Muse, and Gallerium. Constant motion and the impact it has on our surroundings is a recurring theme in Tammy’s work. She believes the continuous motion of nature, people and their actions, all have consequences on their surroundings. Even while still, she feels this inactivity is a form of activity. Passive avoidance and stillness affect all that is around us. In conclusion, Tammy is a colorful, experienced, well-loved artist whose vibrant paintings make one think about our actions and impacts. They can make one cognizant of potential changes in our interactions that can be life altering.

Artistic Process 

My process sometimes begins with the idea of something still and concrete, but  sometimes an emotion or a situation. Colors are mixed, canvas size is chosen. Bringing the  paint to life involves music,  swirling motions with constant movement and interaction. All things in  life, nature, human interaction, even if still, impact their surroundings. I look around me, I stare at the piece, I repeat and adjust until I have it at just the right color, balance, and harmony. The painting is sometimes intuitive and easy, and sometimes labor intensive to reach the final point when I am happy with the result.
